Kampo Herbal Medicine

At New Horizons Acupuncture only high quality, standardized, highly effective herbal formulas are prescribed to address patient symptoms. Patients are closely monitored for possible modifications or changes to the original prescription.

Kampo is Classical Chinese Herbology from the Han Dynasty practiced in Japan. 80% of licensed MD’s and Pharmacists in Japan practice a form of Kampo. Diagnostic techniques in Kampo are specialized and include abdominal palpation, assessment of patient constitution and symptoms.

Most formulas are given in granular form and drunk as a tea. Subject to stringent GMP standards, Japanese and Taiwanese products are known for their superior quality control and safety. They are approved in the US by the FDA.

Dietary Therapy

Diet and nutrition are an integral part of Chinese medicine. Eating in relation to the seasons is prioritized. Food is used therapeutically depending on its unique properties.

Chinese medicine focuses on maintaining balance and health at all times. Food is something we are consistently putting into our bodies. Different types of food keep us either “in balance” or “out of balance.” Small changes in the foods we eat can quickly change our health and relieve symptoms. Eating seasonally supports a balanced body; seasonal foods are more nutrient dense. Food has unique therapeutic properties; depending on one’s condition and constitution different foods are specifically chosen.
